Why isn't my cat moving much in the winter?
Often in the winter when the colder weather comes this is a time - particularly in older pets - that we start to see the signs of arthritis.
Arthritis can be really difficult to detect in cats, in particular.
You may find that your cat doesn't want to walk upstairs so much, doesn't want to jump up on the sofa to be on your lap, it may be more reluctant to go outside. These are all signs that your cat may be starting to show signs of arthritis.
Fortunately, there's some really good treatments that we can offer to keep them comfortable over the winter months. Ethanol is a great supplement that you could consider. It's a green lip muscle extract which has some really good results in treating or managing arthritis in cats.
There's also some senior diets and mobility diets that you could use prescription diets that your vet may recommend.
And if none of these work then your vet can offer some non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. These obviously have to be prescribed by your vet but there are some options there and we want our cats to feel comfortable.
So there's lots of things that you can do to help them.
