What is the best food to support my dog who keeps scratching raw skin on his back?
Itchy dogs. Yeah it can be a very frustrating thing to watch when your dog's itching so much.
One of the first things i'd recommend is that you get your dog checked out by your vet.
So if you've managed his fleas and he's had regular flea treatment and he still has the itch then there could be a number of other things causing the itchy problem.
So some of these may include a bacterial infection, he may have an allergy and that allergy could be from food or it could be from the environment, until the vet can check them out and do some skin scrapes and other diagnostics you won't know what's causing the itch.
Once you find out what's causing the itch then certainly there may be a food that your vet may prescribe to manage the itch and hopefully clear it up.
You may want to spend a bit more money and go to an animal dermatologist, it may seem like an investment up front but in the long run it can save you quite a lot of money just by getting that diagnosis nice and early.
They do allergen testing for example the same as they do in humans. But spending that money up front and really getting the final diagnosis right at the start can really save a lot of money in the long run.
A few options there, but we're not going straight to food first - get your dog examined, get a diagnosis and then there may be a prescription diet suitable for your dog.
